DESIGN TREND: BLACK WALLS

I keep seeing more and more black painted rooms these days and I just can't get enough of them. A black room can be finished many different ways. The possibilities are endless. But why paint a room black in the first place? I think Elle Decor put it best when it stated, "We wear it when we want to look polished—so why not use black to give a room its own dressed-up chic?"

My advice to anyone considering decorating with black walls is to go bold or go home. I recently convinced a client to go with black for the walls in her home office/ guest bedroom. Even though she liked my inspiration photos, she was weary of painting the room such a dark color. I couldn't blame her. The idea scared me a little too. We considered dialing it down and using a dark grey instead of black. At the end of the day, I knew the gray wouldn't have the contrast and boldness we were looking for and we settled on a deep black Benjamin Moore paint color. The result was fabulous!! My client says that this is her favorite room in her home and I couldn't be happier to hear that. You can see that room in my portfolio but I want to share some other fab black painted rooms:
